Privacy Policy

Last updated: 10/07/2026

Spotter ("we," "us," "the app") is a social fitness app that helps you see when your friends are at the gym and train together. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and what control you have over it.

1. Information we collect

Account information. Email address, password (stored securely — we never see it in plain text), full name, username, city, and home gym.

Location. With your permission, Spotter uses your device's precise location to:

Location is used live, in the moment — we do not track or log your location history in the background.

Photos. If you upload a profile picture, it's stored in our file storage and shown on your profile.

Content you create. Sessions (gym, activity type, notes, timestamps), training plans, messages you send to friends, cheers, and your friend/follow relationships.

Messages. Direct messages between friends are stored as plain text in our database, visible only to the conversation's participants. They are protected by the same access controls as the rest of your data but are not end-to-end encrypted — comparable to the protection level of most mainstream chat features, not a dedicated secure-messaging app.

Device and push notifications. If you enable notifications, we store a push token tied to your account so we can deliver alerts (cheers, join requests, messages, reminders). You can turn individual notification types off in Settings at any time.

Sign-in via Google or Apple. If you use "Continue with Google" or "Sign in with Apple," we receive your email address and name from that provider to create your account. We never see your Google or Apple password.

Crash and error data. We use Sentry, a third-party error-monitoring service, to catch and fix bugs. This can include device type, OS version, and the app state at the moment of a crash — not your password or message content.

2. How we use your information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.

3. Who we share it with

We share data only with the service providers that help us run the app, and only as needed to provide the service:

We do not share your data with data brokers or advertising networks.

4. Who can see what

Spotter gives you control over visibility:

5. Data retention

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account (Settings → Account → Delete Account), your profile, sessions, messages, and related data are permanently deleted. This cannot be undone.

6. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws like the GDPR (EEA/UK) or similar state laws (e.g. CCPA) — to request a copy of your data, or to object to certain processing. Contact us using the details below.

7. Children's privacy

Spotter is not directed at children and is not intended for use by anyone under 13 years old (or the minimum age required in your country to consent to data processing without parental approval). We do not knowingly collect data from children under this age.

8. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit and at rest, and row-level access controls so that only you (or people you've connected with) can see your information. No system is 100% secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your data and respond quickly to any issues.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. If we make material changes, we'll let you know in the app before they take effect.
